Every universe begins somewhere.
For The Magicians, it began on a stage — a simple magic show that refused to stay simple. A tuxedo, a top hat, a few tricks… and then the truth slipped out. The magician was a sorcerer. His assistant was undead. The ghost in the wings wanted an autograph. And the Grim Reaper was waiting backstage for paperwork.

From that first chaotic performance, a world was born.

A world where illusion and reality blur.
Where necromancers moonlight as entertainers.
Where vampires argue about bureaucracy.
Where telepathy is casual conversation.
Where the dead interrupt shows because they “heard you talk to ghosts.”
Where the afterlife is literally in someone’s backyard.

This is the heart of The Magicians:
